Summary of the US/CAN Trade Changes
For Canadian customers, there is No Change.
For US customers:
Tariffs: The US has announced a 25% Tariff on steel and aluminum to go into effect on March 12, 2025
Duty: The duty for our classification of products is 2%, with an $800 de minimis threshold, which means duty is exempt on imports below $800, and charged on amounts greater than $800, There is a proposed cancellation of the $800 de minimis rule, which would mean ALL U.S. orders, regardless of value, would be subject to a 2% duty. For example, a $20 purchase by a US customer would incur a $0.40 duty.
Tariff vs. Duty: What's the Difference?
Tariff: A tax on imported goods, imposed by the government, often used to protect domestic industries or as a trade policy tool. The cost incurred is in the country imposing the tariff.
Duty: A fee charged on specific imported goods based on classification and value, applied regardless of trade policies, paid by the customer/importer.
